The Magdalena Consort is an ensemble of flexible size, aiming to suit performances to the circumstances of present-day concerts, and also experiment from a musicological point of view. In relation to the vocal works of J.S Bach, this will often mean performance by one voice to a part, generally with multiple strings, though larger forces are by no means ruled out. Where circumstances make it appropriate, and for smaller spaces, chamber performances of solo cantatas are a possibility, reflecting a likely style of domestic devotion. Please see the 'approach' page on performance practice for more discussion of these questions.

True to the commitment to J.S. Bach, the Magdalena Consort is able to offer many programmes of music by J.S. Bach, including the major works, cantatas and the smaller-scale 'Lutheran' masses. The group can also offer music by Monteverdi, for instance, Handel's, and other oratorios on a grand scale, and music from the French Baroque - both larger programmes of 'Grands Motets', and chamber concerts of cantatas and motets.

Please see the various example programmes, but do bear in mind that these are just a few suggestions from what can be offered.
