Peter Harvey Peter Harvey is one of Europe's most sought-after interpreters of baroque music in general, and of the Bach's vocal music in particular. He has made innumerable recordings under the baton of some of the world's best-known conductors. He was a key participant in Sir John Eliot Gardiner's "Bach Cantata Pilgrimage" in the Year 2000 (the project to perform and record all of the two hundred sacred cantatas), and has himself sung around half of them. In addition to taking part in countless performances of the best-known works - the Passions, B minor Mass, Christmas Oratorio and so on - he has recorded all of these major pieces. The recordings range in style from the traditional, such as the Christmas Oratorio with the Netherlands Bach Society, to the smaller-scale verions using solo voices, including the St. Matthew Passion with Paul McCreesh and the Gabrieli Consort, and early Bach cantatas with the Purcell Quartet.

Later this year he records Handel's "Messiah" with the Stuttgart Chamber Choir, directed by Frieder Bernius. He will also perform it with the Calgary Philharmonic in Canada, where he also works with Tafelmusik and The Theatre of Early Music. He appeared with the Washington Bach Consort in May, and at Easter he had the great honour to sing the St. Matthew Passion with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Bernard Haitink's first performances of the work.

Principally known for his interpretations of baroque music, he performs music from all periods, including recitals of Lieder and French Song with Roger Vignoles, and in January next year he will record Schubert's "Die Winterreise" for Linn records with Gary Cooper.
